The quick answer
Does insurance cover IOP at Exist?
Does insurance cover IOP? For many people it does, because intensive outpatient is billed as a mental health or substance use benefit. Your plan decides how much it pays, whether it needs approval first, and whether Exist is in network for you. Benefits vary by plan. Verification is not a guarantee of payment. Truth House is housing, so insurance does not cover it.
We check the plan before you start, and we tell you what it said.

What the plan decides
Four answers we get from your plan.
A benefits check is a call to your plan with your member ID and date of birth. These are the four things we ask about for IOP and PHP, and we bring each answer back to you in plain words.

Coverage
Whether your plan covers intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization, and under which part of your mental health or substance use benefit.

Network
Whether Exist is in network or out of network on your plan. Many out-of-network plans still pay part of IOP, and we map that before you start.

Approval
Whether the plan requires prior authorization, which means it approves the level of care before your first day. Approval is still not a promise of payment.

Your share
What the plan says about your deductible, copay, and coinsurance. We pass along the plan's own numbers and never quote a copay we made up.

Questions about insurance and IOP.
Many plans do, because intensive outpatient is a mental health or substance use benefit. Marketplace plans must cover both, and federal parity law says those benefits cannot be limited more strictly than medical care. Benefits vary by plan, so we check yours before you start.
